Between faith, tradition and spectacle, the event that every July unites the city and enchants the world
The Feast of Saint Rosalia
The Feast of Saint Rosalia is not just an event: it is an experience that involves the whole of Palermo. Lights, devotion, music, tradition, and thousands of visitors from all over the world.
The Feast dates back to 1624, when Palermo was struck by a severe plague epidemic. According to tradition, the discovery of the Saint’s relics on Mount Pellegrino and their procession through the city led to the end of the epidemic.
Since then, Saint Rosalia has been the patron saint of Palermo, and every year in July the city celebrates her with a grand Feast that combines religious devotion, popular tradition, and spectacle, becoming one of the most representative and identity-defining events of Sicily.
Why it has become an international event
The majestic Statue of Saint Rosalia, the triumphal chariot, fireworks, and widespread public participation attract tourists, photographers, and pilgrims from all over the world every year.
The message of the event
