Lamezia Terme was founded in 1968 from the unification of the municipalities of Nicastro, Sambiase and Sant’Eufemia.
Lamezia Terme plays a very important role as an administrative and economic center for the area, serving as a major regional hub thanks to its road, rail and airport connections.
The name “Lamezia Terme” refers on one hand to the most ancient political community known in the area since protohistoric times, the Lametini, and on the other to the presence of thermal springs along the Bagni stream, in the locality of Caronte.
The area surrounding Lamezia Terme hosts numerous agricultural businesses that mainly produce olive oil and wine, including the renowned Lamezia DOC, obtained from grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Greco Nero.
